Temple Design

Project Year: 2023

Location: Jalgaon, Maharashtra

Typology: Temple Design

The Jalgaon Temple Project is one that holds deep sentimental value—not only for us at SZA, but for the residents whose faith and devotion give this space its true meaning. Designed within a compact colony open space, this small temple stands as a carefully crafted tribute to traditional Hindu temple architecture, recreated with respect, precision and emotional honesty.

A Temple Rooted in Tradition:

Inspired by the architectural vocabulary of ancient Hindu temples, the design replicates the proportions, iconography, and structural language of classical forms as faithfully as possible within the available footprint. Every element—from the base plinth to the shikhara proportions—has been approached with reverence for tradition and cultural continuity.

Respectful of Vastu & Directional Principles:

Given the spiritual sensitivity of the project, utmost care was taken to align the temple as per vastu, ensuring proper directional orientation, placement of the garbhagriha, and flow of movement. Every decision was guided by the residents’ beliefs and established temple-building norms, forming a design that is both spiritually correct and emotionally resonant.

Mandapa & Pradakshina Path in Compact Scale:

The mandapa, though adapted to suit the limited site, still carries the grace, rhythm and sanctity of traditional forms. Its scaled-down proportions are thoughtfully balanced, ensuring it remains visually pleasing and functionally effective for rituals, offerings and gatherings.

A small yet meaningful pradakshina path has been incorporated around the sanctum, preserving this essential aspect of temple experience. Despite the site constraints, the design ensures devotees can perform their parikrama comfortably and safely.

Modern Techniques for a Timeless Expression:

To honour tradition while meeting present-day construction standards, the temple employs modern building techniques alongside classical detailing. This approach ensures longevity, precision and ease of execution, while keeping the final expression as close as possible to the aesthetic of ancient temple architecture.

A Sacred Space for the Community:

This temple is more than a built structure—it is a symbol of devotion, unity and shared heritage for the community. For us, it is a project crafted with immense care, respect and emotional connection. For the residents, it is a precious spiritual anchor, designed to be cherished for generations.
